The People's Perspective on Medicine

Celebrate with a Cool Gift from The People’s Pharmacy!

Our goal for more than 40 years has been to help people make informed decisions about their health. Here’s a unique offer for a holiday gift.

What is the most precious gift of all? Hint: It’s not a new car, a smartphone, an electronic gadget, jewelry or clothing. The most extraordinary gift is good health. Many of us take our health for granted until something goes wrong. Then it becomes our number one concern. We have been striving to help you make well-informed health decisions for decades. Why not share the gift of good health this holiday season?

A Short History:

It all started with our #1 best-selling book, The People’s Pharmacy in 1976. That was followed by a public radio show on our host station, WUNC in Chapel Hill, NC. Then came our syndicated newspaper column distributed by King Features. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary on November 27, 2018. Here’s a link to an article about that milestone. More books followed (over 20 have been published). We took our radio show national in 1994 to impact a wider audience. Our website has reached tens of millions of people and our podcasts are heard all over the world.

A Special Offer from The People’s Pharmacy

We strive to provide our readers and listeners an objective voice in health care. We do that by making our books and body care products available. For this holiday, we have a special limited offer for people who appreciate our syndicated radio show hosted on WUNC.

We have a handful of mugs with the WUNC and People’s Pharmacy logo. Every day as you drink your morning tea or coffee, you can feel a great sense of satisfaction that you are supporting one of the few independent voices in health care.

Comments From Readers and Listeners

Tom, a listener to our radio show, shared this message on Dec. 9, 2018:

“On Saturday morning I get to sleep in because my gym doesn’t open until 8:00 AM.  So until I leave for the gym at 7:30,I listen to your program while I do my daily stretching.  I listen to the rest of the program during the drive.

“While waiting for the gym to open its doors, I discuss with my friends what I learned from your show.  I must say that I love the show.  What I generally get from your program is that just about everything in health is improved by diet and exercise.  I am in a club that sees how many days in a row you can do at least a mile of something.  I am currently at 2,009 days.  However, at the age of 66 I haven’t missed many days since I was 30, and before that almost never.

“Anyway, what your program has done for me more than anything else is change my diet.  I have severely reduced my processed foods, refined sugar, red meat, cholesterol, and sodium.  I repeat everyday, G-BOMBS (Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries And Seeds), that I learned from the show earlier this year.

“This week in program #1145 (Are Big Corporations Hacking the American Mind?)  I was fascinated by the discussion of “Connect, Contribute, Cope and Cook.”  I now understand the difference between pleasure and happiness.  Thanks so much for all you do.”

Thank you, Tom, for making The People’s Pharmacy possible.

Mary in Frankfort, Illinois, is a nurse and offers this thought:

“I am a pharmacist but also see benefits with alternative medicine. In the past, I had issues with hot flashes (saw your column in the Wed. Oct. 10 Chicago Tribune). I wanted to share with you and your readers what my midwife had recommended.

“She told me to get Chasteberry (Vitex), a natural herbal product, and take 500mg, once daily. Within a few days, I had no more issues with hot flashes. Thank you for your wonderful column.”

Karen in North Carolina sums it up best:

“THANK YOU! For decades of engaging education, provocative programming and empowering us to be the captain of our own ship!

Thank you, Karen. And thank you to all the people who read our newspaper column and newsletter, listen to our radio show and podcast, and visit this website. We are so grateful to all our readers and listeners for the opportunity to share health information.
