happy children swimming, summertime, prevent swimmer's ear

Summer is a great time to enjoy being outdoors. But vacation travel and playing in the back yard both offer potential hazards, such as sunburn, bug bites, poison ivy or blisters. How do you handle such everyday problems? We’ll take your calls and questions about common summertime troubles and home remedies that can help ease them.

Do You Need to Take Vitamin D?

Summer is the time when most Americans can actually get enough sun to be able to make the vitamin D they need. But if you are extremely conscientious with your sunscreen, you may not be getting all the vitamin D you expect from your time outside. We talk with Dr. Tieraona Low Dog about vitamin D, the prevalence of insufficiency and how we can get enough.

What was the stuff that farmers take to prevent severe sunburn?

For burns, the miracle healer is liquid vitamin E sold in bottles or a capsule broken open. Heals burning immediately.

  3. Eileen

I have chronic eczema on the bottom of my foot which causes intense itching at night. After trying many remedies recommended by my dermatologist, I was told by a friend to soak my foot in cider vinegar once a day (I do it at night) for about 20 minutes. Six months later, and I have no eczema symptoms!

I have discovered honey for those small kitchen burns or grill burns. Coat the burn with honey and the pain INSTANTLY dissipates. I leave it on until I need to wash my hand. If it is still painful I will reapply. Sticky mess but worth it.
