Middle-aged male doctors who took a daily multivitamin were less likely to develop cataracts as they grew older, according to the Physicians’ Health Study II.

In this large study, more than 5700 men took a Centrum Silver daily and a similar number took placebo. These volunteers filled out annual questionnaires about their health between 1997 and 2011. Those on the multivitamin lowered their risk of cataracts by 9 percent during that time. The benefit was most apparent among older men, perhaps because their risk of cataracts is highest.

I am the same jean from Virginia who wrote a previous comment. I did as much research as I could on cataracts and the consensus seemed to be that there was no cure, but that Vit C seemed to slow down the development. I got to thinking, well if it could slow it down, maybe it could cure it. As soon as I read that I increased the C I was getting from about 300mg a day to 600mg a day (still a very safe dose) and doubled the amount of Vit C foods I was eating in a day. It has now been about 6 months since I did that and now there is no cloudiness atAll in my left eye. Before there was a little bit of cloudiness. The real test will come in about 7 months when I go to the eye doc again and ask her if she sees any difference. I will report here after that

I am 71 years old and was told after a recent eye exam that I have the beginnings of a cataract in my left eye. The doctor told me to wear sunglasses when outside as much as possible. What else can I do to delay or stop the development of this cataract?

The study says 14,641 participated and AMD frequency showed mild increase with the vitamin taking group.

Timely topic! I am 69 yrs old and was told by my ophthalmologist during my annual eye exam, that I am just beginning to develop a cataract in one eye. I have taken an Active Senior multivit fo years. She specifically recommended increasing my intake of Vit C – in liquid form. Acai Juice and/or Emergen C were suggested.
