Heavy Drinking Linked to Aggressive Prostate Tumors

Heavy drinking may also be harmful for men with a risk of prostate cancer. A clinical trial of the prostate drug finasteride compared the medication to placebo in 11,000 men. The seven-year-long study found that men who consumed four drinks a day doubled their chances of aggressive prostate tumors. And although finasteride appeared protective in men who did not drink heavily, it had no impact on the drinkers’ risk. The scientists conclude that it would be prudent for men taking finasteride as a precaution against prostate cancer to limit their alcohol consumption.
