overcome erectile dysfunction, sex after 50, vaginal discomfort

When men lose interest in sex, it is sometimes chalked up to a lack of testosterone. New research from Sydney, Australia, suggests, however, that a reduction in sexual activity can in and of itself lower testosterone levels.

What the Scientists Did

The researchers tested 1,700 men over 70 years old at the start of the study and after two years. They were asked standard questions about sexual activity and libido and their hormone levels were measured.

What They Found

The baseline serum testosterone levels did not predict any changes in sexual behavior, but those who had low libido at the beginning of the study were more likely to demonstrate a drop in testosterone by the end of it.
