Bisphenol or BPA for short, is widely used in the lining of cans, cash register receipts and is a component of hard clear plastics. A new study shows that this endocrine disruptor may have negative effects on the kidney.
Researchers found that children with higher levels of BPA in their urine also had higher levels of a protein called albumin. This is a marker of damage to the kidneys. The researchers suggest that this low-grade level of albumin in the urine might have negative effects on kidney function and cardiovascular health later in life.
