Bupropion Helpful Against Low Sex Drive

Women with low libido may find that it contributes to relationship problems. There is new data to suggest that one particular antidepressant might help improve hypoactive sexual desire disorder. While most antidepressant suppress sexual interest, bupropion appears to stimulate sex drive. The study included more than 200 women who were randomized to take sustained release bupropion or a placebo daily for three months. The women who took the bupropion doubled their scores on a sexual function questionnaire. Those on placebo barely improved. The investigators speculate the the drug affects the neurochemical dopamine, which plays a key role in human sexuality.
