Cookies Banish Diarrhea Misery in Dogs and Humans

Q. Thanks for writing about coconut macaroon cookies. I’d had diarrhea for almost 18 months. Last year the doctor did a colonoscopy and found an ulcer in my colon. He put me on a low-fat, low-fiber diet and prescribed Rowasa. This treatment did not improve my condition, so he prescribed cortisone.

Despite the medicine I was having six to ten liquid stools daily. After I lost ten pounds, he referred me to another specialist who diagnosed bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. The antibiotic that was prescribed was also ineffective.

The doctors didn’t seem to know what to do. I was very discouraged and felt like a guinea pig. But after I read your article I tried eating coconut macaroons. They worked very well.

Another colonoscopy was done and the biopsy showed my colitis was healing. When I saw the doctor for follow-up I told him about the cookies and was told to keep eating them. I eat just one macaroon a day, because two make me constipated.

A. Many years ago Donald Agar wrote us that Archway Coconut Macaroon cookies relieved his chronic diarrhea due to Crohn’s disease. Since then we have heard from many people who have also benefited. One scientist suggested that the lauric acid in coconut can fight bacteria; this may account for some of its effectiveness.

Here are some other stories about coconut cookies vs. diarrhea:

“My wonderful dog hasn’t soiled in the house for over twelve years, since she was a little puppy. So I was alarmed last week when she developed diarrhea and soiled our brand-new carpet.

“I was upset, but remembered the people who have written about Archway Coconut Macaroons. I bought the cookies and gave her some, and she did not have another accident. It may be coincidence, but I am convinced these cookies work wonders.”

“I read your article mentioning someone giving Archway Coconut Macaroons to a dog. Like you, I can’t imagine how a coconut macaroon would stop diarrhea. My mother-in-law suffered from totally liquid bowel movements for about eight years without getting benefit from any prescription drug on the market. She had visited numerous doctors to no avail and had recently become somewhat homebound because of this problem.

“When my brother-in-law heard about coconut macaroons, he told her to try them. Within a couple of days her problem disappeared totally, to her total astonishment! I thought you’d like another unsolicited testimonial for Cookie Power!”

“I have enjoyed reading about Archway Coconut Macaroon cookies for chronic diarrhea. I could not find that brand and so just started eating some shredded coconut. The symptoms went away after the first day. Thanks for the tip.”
