Whether the culprit is cold, dry air, frequent handwashing (to avoid catching colds) or dry heated air indoors, winter is tough on skin and lips. Many of us struggle at this time of year with chapped hands or chapped lips and search for ways to help soothe these dry, irritated areas.

That's why we are offering our Winter Skin Survival Kit. It contains Udderly Smooth Extra Care 20, a super-moisturizing skin cream with 20% urea for maximum effect. Udderly Smooth Extra Care 20 is specially formulated by a pharmacist for people with extreme skin care challenges due to chemotherapy or radiation--but it also offers fabulous relief for the rest of us. In addition, the Winter Skin Survival Kit contains three of our all-natural Lip Care products (one each of Berry, Chocolate Mint and Pomegranate flavors). This combination is offered at 15% off, with a FREE Guide to Skin Care and Treatment. That is 8 pages of essential information, a $3 value, just for ordering the Winter Skin Survival Kit. Wouldn't this make a great gift for someone you know--or a treat for yourself?

Dry skin, especially hands and face, in the winter is certainly problematic for many. However, my problem is the dry nose and throat caused by dry heat in a closed house, especially at night. Sometimes I wake up, and find my throat is so dry I can't even swallow, because it is stuck together. I never had this problem when I was younger, but at age 58 I am very concerned because sometimes there is a little tint of bleeding-perhaps due to age related thinning skin membranes. Is there something recommended for this kind of dryness?

I don't see how to order this winter survival kit!

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE:

Dear Sally,

We have had problems with our shopping cart. We apologize. The Winter Survival Kit is not yet available in the cart. BUT...do not worry. If you order Extra Care 20 and our lip balm 3-pack we will manually take 15% off your order. It will take a few days to process, but we promise we will get you the discount! And we will include our free Guide to Skin Care as a PDF file in the process.

So sorry for this technical glitch.

IS THERE ANY natural home remedy for the lips? (dryness)

OK, I'm trusting you on the Winter Survival Kit ordering...am anxious to try these products. I had the same question as Sally.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE:

My son has similar problems with dry mouth and nose during the winter and can be prone to nosebleeds as a result. The most helpful thing for him is the nightly use of a humidifier in his bedroom. His comfort level has improved dramatically simply by doing this. Plus, I've noticed that his room temperature feels more comfortable so we're looking into purchasing a larger humidifier for the family room/kitchen area and maybe some more small ones for each additional bedroom. It will be worth it for all of us to feel warmer and have less itchy skin.

Your "article" is an ad from your sponsor - which I understand may be necessary but present it as an ad and put home remedies in your articles, please. For a widely available and economical lip balm your readers might like to try Bag Balm. A $10 can lasts a year and it makes WNY winters more comfortable.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: Bag Balm is certainly an old familiar product that has been used for years by dairy farmers. We have nothing against it.

We do think that some people would prefer our all-natural lip balm or the 20% urea formulation of Udder Cream.

I am a big "Bag Balm" user. You can use it for anything from diaper rash, chapped lips or any delicate part of the body. It lasts forever and can be found just about anywhere.

Plain, clear, unadulterated Glycerin just as it comes from the pharmacy, works GREAT! May need to be mixed with a very small amount of water to make it easier to apply. In some cases, however, there are those who are allergic to Glycerin, but that's somewhat rare. Recommended by the produce guy at the organic food store.
