Jay Leno Headlines Molasses for Asses!

Every once in awhile a visitor sends in a home remedy that catches national attention. Last week Jay Leno featured “Molasses for Asses” in his headline segment. To find our 15 seconds of fame scan ahead to about 10 minutes into the show.
Jay was reading our newspaper column that admonished people not to smear molasses on their hemorrhoids. We have heard from a surprising number of readers and visitors to this website that swallowing a spoonful of blackstrap molasses daily can help heal hemorrhoids. FDA approved? Definitely not. There are no double-blind placebo-controlled trials. On the other hand, compared to surgery, blackstrap molasses (BSM) is inexpensive and just might work for you the way it worked for some of the folks below.

“I read your article in the Houston Chronicle about taking 1 tablespoon of Blackstrap Unsulphured Molasses for hemorrhoids about 30 days ago. I was seeing a doctor and was using Prep H wipes, suppositories and the maximum strength cream just to get by so I figured what the heck and went to the Whole Foods store and bought a bottle.
“In less than 30 days, WOW, Hallelujah !!! All evidence of hemorrhoids (pain, discomfort, bleeding, itching have gone). Now I am not saying that this will work for everyone but it sure as heck worked for me.
“I am scheduled for a proctosigmoidoscopy within 2 weeks to check.”

“I read your column in The Buffalo News on a regular basis and enjoy it very much.
“Recently a reader wrote to you, touting blackstrap molasses as a treatment or cure for hemorrhoids.
“As a hemorrhoid sufferer, I have used over-the-counter medications and doctor-prescribed ointment, Proctosol, without much success.
“My problem seems to flare up when I eat certain foods–especially spicy dishes–or engage in vigorous exercise such as running or bike riding.
“I decided to try blackstrap molasses, taking one teaspoon twice a day. Remarkably, in less than a month, I have found relief ! The condition has improved at least 75%, with only a minor irritation occasionally. The burning, itching and even blood spotting has all but disappeared. Believe me, I was skeptical about this remedy– so even after some initial relief, I purposely ate foods that normally cause a flare-up, and much to my surprise, there was no outbreak.
“I’d be interested to know if you have received any other positive feedback regarding B. S. M. Perhaps it’s time for some clinical research. This stuff has OTC products beat ‘cheeks down.'”

We hope you found Jay Leno’s “Headlines” amusing and these stories entertaining if not helpful. Bottoms Up!
