Back to Sleep

Babies should be sleeping on their backs, not on their sides or stomachs. That’s the recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics. When some researchers began suggesting that sudden infant death syndrome was linked to stomach sleeping over 20 years ago doctors and parents were skeptical. But ongoing studies have shown that sudden infant death is less common when babies sleep on their backs. In addition, the Academy recommends that parents keep crib bumpers, pillows, quilts out of the crib where the baby sleeps. They also suggested that the crib could be in the parents bedroom but that babies should not sleep with parents in the big bed.
