Q. You might wish to tell readers to beware taking both Plavix and Nexium. After installing a stent near my heart, my doctor said no changes were needed in my list of medications, even though I would be mixing Nexium with Plavix for the next year.

I checked this advice on our computer and saw another specialist. He immediately stopped the Nexium and changed my GERD medication to pantoprazole.

A. There is uncertainty about the interaction between acid-suppressing drugs like esomeprazole (Nexium) and the anti-clotting drug clopidogrel (Plavix) that you need to keep your stent open. Some studies suggest that the acid-suppressor will interfere with the effectiveness of Plavix or even aspirin. Pantoprazole (Protonix) appears to be the best choice if a GERD medicine is needed (Thrombosis and Haemostasis, June, 2011).

The shoulder harness damaged my heart during an auto accident. I had 70% blockage of my "widow maker" artery. The Cardiologist wanted me to get a splint. IV Chelation by my family Dr took care of this blockage completely and I've not had problem with the artery since.

My Cardiologist wants me on a blood thinner but I am taking 3, 400 iu capsules of vitamin E daily, Gingko Biloba, 2X a day and Nattokinase, 2X a day. Last time I was at the Cardiologist's office he again nagged me, so I said test the blood if you don't think I'm OK. The nurse came in with a test kit and informed me that the result was perfect!

Most people as they get older and have digestive problems really need digestive enzymes, not antacids! I can't tell you how many of my friends have successfully made the switch. I've been taking them for about 30 years. After starting on the Betaine HCL and enzyme formula my nails grew for the first time in my life and my hair no longer has split ends. My bones are good-even at age 65!

My son was a "shrimp" and shorter than the Asian girls in his class. As soon as he started on digestive enzymes he started growing. Now as an adult he is 6'1".

What is Betaine HCL and Ensyme formula? I can't take vitamin E because I take Warfarin.

I stopped taking Prilosec because I was afraid of taking it for a long time, now I take Ranitidine, 150 MG Twice a day. I still have heartburn occasionally.

NOW has a good combination product that has 200 mg of Betaine HCL with some other digestive enzymes. It would be a good way to start. Take one with meals for a week or two and then increase your dosage very gradually. You may need to add a separate HCL tablet once you reach three of the NOW product. If you get an acid stomach then back off to the last good dose and drink a couple glasses of water. Stay on the good dose until you need to test again.

I use one of the NOW and two Metagest with my meals now. I have had to test every few years and adjust my dose.

Much to my Cardiologist's dismay I refused warfarin and listened to my own Dr. I am doing great with the remedies I mentioned. Lab work is great too.
