Q. I've had arthritis for years. I followed advice in your column and am totally amazed to find that eating cherries daily made my shoulder pain stop. I drink cherry juice when cherries are out of season.
After adding apple cider vinegar to my regimen, my hands no longer hurt. When I didn't consume these things during a trip, the pain returned. It's been months now, and they are still working.
A. We're glad you found options that help. There are more details on these and other arthritis remedies at www.peoplespharmacy.com.

I too suffer from arthritis in my hands, hips, and c-spine. Some amounts of cherries, cherry juice, and apple cider vinegar would be helpful for any of us who would like to try this home remedy. Also, how is the vinegar applied?
I first learned of gin-soaked raisins, tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice, celery, from PP write-ins. I have severe gout, lotsa arthritis, pains everywhere. BUT--when I stay off the beer (and gluten free stuff, to boot!), limit the wine, eats lots of celery, drink cherry juice and eat cherries (and blueberries), swill pomegranate juice, my aches and pains disappear for a while, and I can crawl under my truck to change oil, climb up and clean the gutters, and act young again--UNTIL once more I hit the cheese, wine, beer, steak, pasta, etc.
So eat lotsa celery! Drink lotsa cherry and pomegranate juice! Soak golden raisins in gin (use cheap gin; works the same as good gin, and costs much less--save the GOOD gin for martinis), and after the gin evaporates, eat a dozen or so a day.
All this is magic, mostly with no rational explanation. But, like the soap under the bedsheets, it WORKS.
What is the regimen for using apple cider vinegar for relief of osteo-arthritis?
I have just found cherries at Costco and need to know if frozen will work? I also wonder how much. And do they work on specific kinds of pain only? I heartily recommend the ones I got at Costco by the way. Delicious! I started eating eight cherries a day but have had no luck so far.
PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: FROZEN CHERRIES SHOULD WORK, THOUGH CHERRIES DO NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE.
I too have tried cherries and apple cider vinegar but have never known the amount of each to use or how often to use them. Someone please don't keep us in the dark, who would like to get some relief!
I have arthritis (age 60) and have a question about sour cherry juice concentrate vs. capsules. Buying the concentrate seems to be the cost-effective way to take the juice but, if I am the only one drinking it here does it lose effectiveness if opened a couple of weeks? I would, of course, be refrigerating it. Are capsules just as good or what do you suggest? Thank you for your help.
PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE DON'T THINK IT LOSES EFFECTIVENESS IF CAPPED AND REFRIGERATED.
I have osteoporosis & have been on yearly injections of Reclast for 4 years & the bone density hasn't gotten better but not worse. One doctor suggested taking Prolia x2 year. what do you think?
I am very interested in trying the cherry intake for arthritis and want to attempt further, the apple cider vinegar but do not know how the vinegar is used as an added aid. I must limit salt intake and wonder if vinegar is a no-no.
PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: VINEGAR DOES NOT CONTAIN SALT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE.
I just read your article in the Chicago Tribune concerning arthritis, cherry juice and apple cider vinegar. I'd like to try it after reading how well it worked for your reader but how much vinegar is required and is it diluted with water?
I have had arthritis for a few years in my hands. It has affected my toes and elbow. I have tried several remedies and over the counter medications with little or no results. After reading the article on Cherries or Cherry juice I decided to try it.
I couldn't find fresh Cherries so I got dried Cherries. After 2-3 weeks I noticed a improvement. I have eaten 10-15 dried Cherries every day now for 2 months and have no swelling in my hands and the joints give me very little to no pain at all. I have family that takes Cherry pills and they have worked as well. Thanks for the helpful hint.

I see the comments about taking cherry juice with vinegar. So how much of each do you mix together and how much do you drink a day?
Thank You
