Q. Two years ago, I was getting headaches every day for several months. I visited five different doctors, but none had a clue as to the reason, and they weren't any help.
I then read about a lady who had written to you. She said her headaches stopped when she stopped eating wheat, oats, barley and rye. The next day, I quit and so did the headaches. Other readers with chronic headaches should try not eating gluten and see if it helps.
A. Migraine headaches are an often-unrecognized symptom of celiac disease. People with this condition cannot tolerate the protein gluten that is found in the grains wheat, barley and rye. Because celiac disease damages the intestine and interferes with nutrient absorption, it puts people at higher risk for osteoporosis, dementia and some cancers. Other symptoms can include digestive difficulties, itchy skin rashes, neuropathies, anemia and fatigue. If you think you may have celiac disease, you should ask your doctor about a test.

I thought my migraines were hormones, etc. When I decided I might have celiacs disease after reading many articles on this site and another, I quit eating gluten products and my headaches went away. Now I can really tell if I have eaten something that might have been cross contaminated with wheat or didn't read a label close enough because I get a headache. A real pain to deal with, no pun intended, but I feel so much better.
I thought my migraine headaches were from office stress but finally determined they were caused by gluten. After twenty years of devastating headaches, they disappeared when I went on a gluten free diet. If I mistakenly ingest some wheat, the headaches return with a vengeance for several days. I am 65 and it is like a new lease on life! Hopefully some doctors will get the word and help others.
I have been in constant pain for seven years. From botox to a pain pump from the Texas medical center I am in pain 24/7. Tightness in the forehead. All this was triggered by a sip of white wine. I have been to Mayo also where they wanted to install a nerve stimulator. This is no fun. Now my legs are blowing up with all the meds. Just recently I read on line that gluten could be a trigger. I am going to try to a gluten free diet. Are there any thoughts or suggestions. I am a great source for trying just about anything; sadly they all fail thanks Robert W.
