Eggs have gotten a bad rap because of their cholesterol content. They have also been fingered as contributing to the risk of type-2 diabetes. It turns out the cholesterol complication was a red herring. Eating eggs does not increase the risk for heart disease. A new study suggests that egg consumption is not linked to diabetes either. Investigators followed nearly 4,000 volunteers between 1989 and 2007. Dietary diaries allowed the researchers to track how many eggs people ate. The subjects were also evaluated for fasting blood sugar. Analysis revealed that there was no association between the risk of developing diabetes and the consumption of eggs or other sources of dietary cholesterol.
