Q. I love reading in your column about foods like cherries, curry and ginger that can help alleviate certain conditions. Where can I find out more about these food remedies?

A. We have gathered hundreds of remedies, along with the scientific research supporting them, in our new book, Favorite Foods: Mother Nature's Medicine. It is only available online at www.peoplespharmacy.com.

I would like to know more about the persimmon tea for reflux disease. Where can I find the callers recipe from the broadcast on 1/23/10 ??

I've heard that ginger root is good for migraines, so I gave it a try and viola! Migraines dissipated within a few days.

I cannot find persimmon tea any place where can I find this tea?
Thank You.

I am in my 60's and have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I also love to garden and to walk. This last year I discovered Black cherry juice to be as or more effective than the advil I was taking everyday, multiple times a day; with the bonus that it doesnt make my ears ring. I am a retired RN by profession so a really appreciate you as a resource I a also have bought several of your book to have as reference.

Let me put it plainly. If you're over-weight, you may have acid reflux. My pharmacist told me after I lost my weight, my acid reflux would disappear. By george, I lost my weight (30 pounds), and the acid reflux went with it. No more problems with the acid!

I would try Amazon for the persimmon tea; I also saw it mentioned in one of the freebie-oriented newsletters, so there may be a sample out there to try. In the meantime you might want to try chamomile or fennel seed tea for the tummy trouble. Amazon has a tea bag product by A. Vogel that includes caraway and fennel seed, which looks to be specifically for digestive health. Also since the persimmon is quite a sour fruit, there's probably an enzyme action involved with that. You might be able to get the same benefit from another fruit -- like papaya or kiwi.
