The Mediterranean diet continues to demonstrate diverse health benefits. Not only does it reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes, but it also appears to protect against Alzheimer's disease and certain cancers. A new study adds to the anticancer evidence. Nearly 500,000 European men and women were followed for nine years. Those who ate a diet most similar to traditional Mediterranean fare were one third less likely to develop stomach cancer.

A lot of people think a Mediterranean diet means eating lots of pizza, pasta, and garlic bread. I don't think that's it, but then what is a Mediterranean diet?
A good book to start with is EAT DRINK AND BE HEALTHY by Dr. Walter Willett of the Harvard School of Public Health. It has a lot of recipes and a good explanation of why and how it is a healthy diet. Has a better food pyramid than the USDA pyramid.
