Researchers have been reporting benefits from green tea for years. Some studies note a lower risk of cancer among those who drink several cups daily. Now a study from Taiwan suggests that drinking at least one cup of green tea daily may help smokers reduce their risk of developing lung cancer. In this study, subjects who were not genetically prone to lung cancer got the greatest benefit. They lowered their likelihood of lung cancer by 66 percent. Of course, drinking green tea is no substitute for smoking cessation. But it may be useful for smokers who are trying to quit and lower their risks.

I caught only the last 15 minutes of today's show (Aug. 28), and woke up more during Terry's response to the woman questioner who reported that her daughter began having anxiety attacks when she reached puberty. The medication that helped the daughter was an ingredient of green tea, but I missed the name. My son exercises, but could benefit from some help in coping with stressful occupational situations. Please e-mail me the name of the critical green tea ingredient. Thank you. I listen via West Virginia public radio.

I think this is what they call complementary medicine--I'll do it with my chemo, but I'd do chemo alone before I'd just do tea alone.
