Q. I wake up slowly in the morning and often take about a half hour before I want to get out of bed. I almost always get eight hours of good sleep. My slow rising irritates my wife, as she gets up quickly, wide awake.
Is there a delayed-release pill I could take at bedtime that would release caffeine just before my desired wake-up time?
A. There is no timed-release caffeine pill that you could take before bed and have it kick in at 7:00 am. You might be able to convince your wife to bring you a cup of coffee in bed to give you the motivation you need to get going. Unless you are missing appointments, perhaps your wife needs to cut you some slack and adapt to your gradual wake-up routine.

I too have wished for a wake-up pill you can pop and it instantly makes you feel like getting up and at 'em. Alas! What helps me are stretching exercises in bed. I start at my feet and stretch all of my body for a few minutes. Try it!
Why not try chewing on seven coffee beans (unground) from a box on your nightstand at your first awakening?
I remember reading an article about children that are hard to get up in the morning. The article said that blood sugar levels can be low in the morning. Their suggestion was to give them a small glass of juice when you wake them up. You could keep something by your bed side for when your alarm goes off. Juice boxes or a piece of hard candy would be easy. I hope this helps.
Some people can wake up fast - they usually don't need as much sleep and often don't
sleep well, I am that type, and always have been compared to my sister who sleeps through anything, her dog walks onto her hair to wake her!! She was that way as a toddler, too. The man's wife should be more understanding of their differences, and
waving a cup of coffee in front of his nose is the best idea, do it with humor, not
nagging. I bet if she'd snuggle up to him, he'd enjoy it and wake up -- after the
coffee!
I take Morphine - 100 mg. - for Peripheral Neuropathy pain and I also have RLS at night. The problem I have been having the past 6 months is I have a problem staying awake after I arise in the morning. Seems after I have my big cup of coffee, I want to sleep the whole morning away. It is not until about 2 pm that I begin to feel "normal" and am able to get some work done. Could it be the morphine or the coffee or both? I am perplexed. Any comments??
