A new analysis of the data from clinical trials of Vioxx suggests that early warning signs of danger were overlooked for years. Investigators pooled data from 30 randomized, placebo-controlled studies and discovered that as early as June of 2001 there was evidence that Vioxx increased the risk of heart attacks or death by 35 percent compared to placebo. The drug was not taken off the market until September of 2004. That means that millions of people were exposed to the dangers of this drug and thousands may have died as a result of this delay.
An accompanying commentary in the Archives of Internal Medicine makes a strong plea for FDA to share its data with physicians and patients as early as possible. The information should be presented in a way that is easy to understand. The authors have devised a prescription drug facts box modeled on the nutrition facts box that can be found on every food label. Doctors and consumers both deserve access to facts rather than marketing hype when it comes to decisions about new pharmaceuticals.

Oh, yes, because Vioxx, I am still suffering from it's after effects. Manufactures should not put out these terrible drugs until they are perfected and approved. This drug almost killed me and I know others who have suffered from it. Damaged our health and still suffering from Vioxx.
I am now being very, very cautious about drugs being offered to me by my physicans and asking a lot more questions from Dr. and Pharmacists about the effects and after effects of these drugs. Scary, but true. One must be very dilligent about these new and some older drugs. One drug almost killed my husband too.
So, folks, be cautious, ask a lot of questions and if you do take the drug given, watch for the after effects. Read the papers accompanying the drugs. Thanks for reading. I could do nothing when people started a lawsuit, the damage was done to me and others and we would have paid more to lawyers than it was worth. So, therefore, I did not join the battle to have the Mfg. stop putting out this drug. But, I did alert a lot of people NOT to take this poison.
SHOCKING??!!! SHOCKING............ NOT!!!!
This kind of information is getting to be not only common but EXPECTED.
The FDA and pharmaceutical companies are still in bed together.
