Many people thought transcendental meditation was a passing fad of the hippie generation. But research into this mode of stress reduction has demonstrated ongoing health benefits. A nine-year study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health has revealed that TM can reduce the rate of heart attack, stroke and death from cardiovascular causes. Perhaps that's because it lowers blood pressure.

I use breathing and meditation techniques often but I'm not certain that I know what transcendental mediation is. Would you give more details about this method of meditation? Thank you!

Like J.K.A, I also use breathing and meditation techniques to help me with chronic pain. I would also like more details about transcendental meditation to see if it would be of help to me.
Thank you

I have been a "TM-er" for 33 years, meditating twice a day. (was taught in NJ and have been TM-ing in CA, AZ and NM).

I rarely get a cold, maybe every 4 or 5 years. My BP is fine, and I thank TM for that.
I highly recommend TM for you!

I heard about this years ago and used biofeedback for my heart fib. I feel teenagers should have a course on this in school. It might help with the anger, bullying, etc. I feel it would be as beneficial as team sports or study hall.

I know that meditation is good for you, but would someone care to let the rest of us in how to do TM instead of leaving us hanging.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: AT THE TM TRAINING, EACH PERSON IS ASSIGNED A SPECIFIC "MANTRA," OR WORD TO REPEAT DURING THE 15 MINUTES TWICE DAILY MEDITATION THAT USED TO BE RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNERS. IT IS NOT ONE MANTRA FITS ALL.

I have been practicing T M (transcendental meditation) for many years. To answer the questions above it is a simple technique that is taught in a few lessons by trained teachers. There is an 800 number you can call to find a local teacher. Just found it using google 1-888-LEARN-TM (1-888-532-7686).

their website is here:

I highly recommend. Even if it didn't have profound medical benefits it would still be totally worth it. like a vacation twice a day.

Transcendental Meditation is unique in terms of technique and effectiveness.

You may want to go to http://meditationfornaturalhealth.com to see a description of how this is the only technique that delivers high degrees of brain coherence which cause improvements in brain functioning which in turn improve health and well being.
