Q. I loved the recipe for persimmon tea to treat heartburn symptoms. I really like the idea of using food to take care of my ailments, and I've gotten good suggestions from your column. I sometimes clip them, but they go astray.
Do you have a book that would have similar remedies like teas or foods for common health symptoms? I think it would make a great present for my family as well as a resource for me.
A. Our brand new book, Favorite Foods From The People's Pharmacy: Mother Nature's Medicine, is a 220-page guide to using foods medicinally. It brings together the most up-to-date research with amazing success stories from readers.

I tried the tea for 6 weeks. Sadly, it did not provide the relief that the purple pill provided even though I cut back on coffee and several foods. A shot glass dose would provide temporary relief when utilized.
The recipe given earlier was good; I liked more ginger and less sugar, only 3/4 cup. The persimmons are available as a dried fruit product in the freezer section of a local Korean market. 2 or 3 pieces is enough for a recipe.
Garry Meier of WGN Radio had Chris Reed on his program today. Reed is the president of Reed's -- they make a wide range of ginger products, from candy to ginger ale / beer. I've used their Ginger Brew for many years and this would definitely be helpful. Reed studied Chinese Traditional Medicine and it looks like he is really revolutionizing the company. Not to make this an advertising pitch but I would highly recommend their products -- no artificial sweeteners, either!
Does anyone know how long the punch will keep in the refrigerator? Barbara
While traveling from Mpls. to Madison my radio reception would falter and I did not hear the entire recipe for this ailment! I am very interested in trying this but cannot locate the recipe at the web site. Would you be so kind to either direct me to where I can find it or send me the recipe? Thank you for your time. I wish MPR had this particular program.
I tried the recipe published in Peoples Pharmacy column but it increased my heartburn and I had to stop after 3 days. I found the dried persimmons at Whole Foods produce section.
I heard the recipe for persimmon tea for heartburn while in my car, could someone send to me. Also how long can it be kept?
Alas, my husband did try the persimmon tea for a month and while we both enjoyed the tea, it did not help his heartburn. Any other suggestions?
Only somewhere between 5 and 15% of the people which suffer from heartburn have it on the chronic level.
Tea didn't help me either but something I found that helps sometimes is to drink some pickle juice.
