You offered the suggestion that Tagamet may send Coumadin levels off the chart. I'm taking 40mg Omeprazole and often 60mgms to control heartburn. My INR's have been erratic for about 6 weeks, usually low. Is the Omeprazole a possible contributor to the low Coumadin readings?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: THERE IS AN INTERACTION, BUT IT ALSO DEPENDS UPON CERTAIN GENES. ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO CHECK THE ARTICLE BY UNO AND COLLEAGUES IN THERAPEUTIC DRUG MONITORING IN JUNE 2008. IT IS WORTH A DISCUSSION.
