At 60, I am fortunate to have only three major complaints: I am Hypothroid and take Synthroid, I have osteopenia, and I have a degenerative disc, which is quite painful. I tried to control the disc pain with physical therapy, then with Aleve and finally I gave in and had a cortisone epidural. It was wonderful. Within a couple of weeks, I had total relief. Of course, it does not last. I forced myself to wait 8 months for the next shot, using Aleve again.

But when I use Naproxan enough to relieve the pain, I get digestive track pain. My question is: What does the cortisone epidural do to my bones? Does it cause weight gain (I have unexplainable weight gain in the past month+). I would love to have the shot more often, the pain is debilitating and makes sleep impossible, but I am afraid of the side effects. How safe do you consider it???
