Michael Jackson was so desperate to get a good night's sleep that he purportedly sought the injectable anesthetic propofol to help him lose consciousness. This intravenous agent is used in hospitals all across the country in general anesthesia. It is also used for procedures like colonoscopies or endoscopies.Generic drug manufacturer Teva has just recalled 57,000 vials of its propofol due to bacterial contamination. This resulted in endotoxins in the intravenous vials associated with patient illness. Symptoms included chills and fever. A spokesperson for Teva says that there was no connection between the contaminated lots and the vial retrieved from Jackson's home.

It says something about the News Media and people in general that when a single celebrity dies we start looking at all the drugs he or she was taking, but unless a few thousand "regular" people die who used the same drug we don't bother. Interesting comment on society!
