Q. I received an email about using Listerine to keep mosquitoes away. Have you ever heard of this?A. We haven't seen any studies on the topic, but we too received an email: "Those mosquitoes are pesky when you're trying to have a good time. I put Listerine in a squirt bottle and squirted it all around the table and chairs where we were sitting outside. It worked! Those little bugs stopped biting!"

I previously read about this and instead of buying Listerine, I bought a generic store brand as it's much cheaper. I put it in a spray bottle and my wife uses it when she sits outdoors. It works!
Listerine didn't work on my mosquitos.
I also tried lavender water, and they weren't deterred by it either.
However, I'm using vinegar now--and it does work. I have it in a spray bottle on my patio table. I just spray a little foggy mist around my perimeter and they stay away.
