Drinking coffee or tea may reduce the likelihood of developing non-melanoma skin cancer. Epidemiological studies have shown that coffee and tea drinkers have a lower incidence of basal and squamous cell skin cancers. Now research in mice and human tissue shows how caffeine makes some skin cancer cells commit suicide. Research published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology has identified the mechanism that may help eliminate cells damaged by ultraviolet radiation.
