Q. Where can I get a complete evaluation of the medicines I am taking? There are several with similar side effects, one being nausea. The drug store doesn’t have the time.
A. Many pharmacists are extremely busy these days, but talking to customers about potential side effects or interactions is part of their professional responsibility. Why not ask if you can make an appointment to speak with the pharmacist? That way there will be adequate time set aside for your questions.
Independent and small chain pharmacies often generate lower prescription volume than the larger chains (Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS, WalMart). Independent pharmacists often have more time to discuss medications as a result.
That is why I only use an independent, small pharmacy in my neighborhood. They know me on sight, know all my meds and always have time to explain things and watch out for me. I don't get the $4 generics but the service more than makes up for it.
I have taken statins for high cholesterol for years but want to stop taking them because of internet doctors (Blaylock Wellness Report and Worstpills.com warn that statins do more harm than good). My own doctor thinks I should stay on statins. Is there any one authoritative source that could settle this? And how can internet doctors warn against statin use when most of the medical profession favors their use? Thank you.
I found a great place online that will tell you all about your meds and they will email
you if there are any warnings from the FDA or the manufacturer. There are blogs where people
taking the various drugs talk with each other about their doses and side effects.They
keep your info confidential. It is called iGuard.org.
