The Food and Drug Administration is not renowned for its openness. Some critics have complained that the agency’s decisions are inscrutable and the logic behind them may be hard to understand. Now, however, the FDA is about to turn over a new leaf. An internal task force led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Joshua Sharfstein will shine some light into dark corners. More information about clinical trials and enforcement decisions might be revealed. Lawyers for the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry may resist such transparency, but the new Commissioner, Dr. Margaret Hamburg, is anxious to have the agency regain its credibility with the American public.

I'm waiting for the FDA to get real about the dangers of breast implants, not only to women, but their unborn offspring...Few mothers, or doctors are making the connection. Read some of the children's experiences on http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconekids.
WE have watched the FDA burrow deeper and deeper in an effort to hide their activities. And now we read that they are no longer going to conduct any inspections in plants manufacturing medical devices -- including pacemakers, heart valves, pain regulators??? WE also read that only 1 such inspection occurred last year, maybe 3 the year before??
Are they also going to cease ALL inspections of foods and pharmaceutical products??
Who is the FDA (supported by our taxes) representing anyway??
How about the new FDA Transparency? Why exactly is the FDA trying to create an image of transparency. What government or private organization pressured the FDA to do this? Its not very common for a government agency to willfully disclose all of its operations to the public. Seriously, can someone tell me who put the FDA up to this, and can anyone verify how we know this transparency act isn't just a facade to create a sense of trust?
