Geodon is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Geodon has a greater capacity to increase QT/QTc interval compared to several other antipsychotics; an increased QT/QTc interval is associated in some other drugs with bringing about a potentially fatal polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and sudden death.

This new generation drug was prescribed as one which would avoid the possible side effects of earlier drugs of its kind.
My son took this for a short period of time (1 week) and experienced his tongue swelling and stuck in an upward position on his palate for hours. (Paramedics were called to assure his airway was not blocked.) Within an hour after this, his entire lower jaw and muscles clenched and locked. He looked like the Joker in the Batman movie. It was a terrifying experience for him.
This lasted for over 6 hours, a trip to the ER resulted in a recommendation to discontinue the drug.
He was fortunate that this was not a life threatening reaction, however, I believe others should be aware of this (potentially) fatal side effect and monitor their reactions appropriately.
