I took Yasmin for about 6 years and never had a single problem with it. I have no history of reproductive organ problems, drug reactions, bloating or rashes.

In February my pharmacy switched me to the Yasmin generic brand, Ocella. Within two days a rash broke out on my face (both cheeks, chin and a bit on the forehead) and my entire body was terribly itchy. At about five days my appetite became voracious and I was retaining so much water I had gain two clothing sizes.

About two weeks in I got an ovarian cyst that burst and was very painful. I called my pharmacy and got a pack of Yasmin to finish out the month. In two days the rash and itchiness were gone. By day 7 or 8 of being back on Yasmin the bloating was completely gone.

I decided to stop using birth control pills altogether after that. It has been three months now and I have not had any of the Ocella-related issues (including ovarian cysts). I don't know what they did differently in the generic but something is not right with it. I know I'm not the only one because I found many complaints of others having similar issues online.

I was also switched to the generic Ocella by my pharmacy. For the past two months I've had migraine headaches and no menstrual cycle during the 4th week. Neither of which occurred on Yasmin. I will be switching back to name brand.
