Q. I suffered from Raynaud’s disease for many years. My doctor suggested I take grape seed extract tablets.

I take two a day. They are not expensive and can be purchased at any health store. Best of all, they have no harmful side effects. My Raynaud’s has completely disappeared!

A. Raynaud’s disease is a painful circulatory condition in which fingers turn blue or white with cold. Grape seed has been used to treat a variety of circulatory complaints. This is the first time we have heard that it might be beneficial for Raynaud’s.

Some readers report success with the Chinese herb astragalus, cinnamon or ginkgo. Anyone taking the blood thinner Coumadin (warfarin) should probably avoid such natural approaches for fear of bleeding.

I'd like to know how many mgs. two grape seed pills would be...how many would be normal for relief?

I have a very bad case of Raynaud's. My hands completely turn purple with lots of pain. I have been taking the grape seed since Apr 24 I have had some relief but would like to know how long of a process this could be? They are still turning purple but the length of time they are discoloured is not as long nor are they painful as much. I have tried many things but so far this has been the best result. I would love to be free of this as it is very uncomfortable and embarrassing as well.

I take coumadin, so is it safe to take grape seeds to relieve raynaud's??????

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: ACCORDING TO THE NATURAL MEDICINES COMPREHENSIVE DATABASE, THERE IS SOME EVIDENCE THAT GRAPE SEED EXTRACT MIGHT INCREASE THE RISK OF BLEEDING WITH COUMADIN. THE DATABASE SUGGESTS CAUTION, AND SO DO WE.

I have had no attacks since taking grapefruit seed extract 4/21/2010 in the liquid form. Just 2 drops a day mixed with lemon juice and water. Hands still feel cold from time to time but no more attacks. Fingers use to turn pure white and then take forever to thaw and throb while changing. Was outside the other day in the rain and wind at 50 degree temps with only glove liners and no problems, even the air conditioning hasn't set it off yet. Also started eating walnuts in July, since they are high in arginine.
