I had lice for 3 years without telling anybody and I tried this and it went away :-)

I use a hair conditioner on dry hair and set for a few min. Then with the conditioner still on hair I use a flea comb and comb out as u would do with any other chemical agent. Wiping the comb contentiously after each swipe. Then I wash hair with a mild dog soap, using as directed on dogs, re comb and then repeat in 7 days.

Then as a precaution I wash my kids hat, combs and brushes, and hair once a month with the mild dog soap. Also using head and shoulders is also a good way for the lice to not be able to stick to your child's hair.
