My mother encouraged me to use the Vicks on my feet for a lingering cough I had. After it had worked so well on my toenail fungus, I decided why not? I slathered it on the sole of my feet and I instantly felt the dry tickle in my throat ease. I slept all night cough-free and without medicine. I use it any time I have a cough and keep a jar in my desk at the office.

I checked this remedy out many years ago on my granddaughter. From a constant cough down to no cough. Incredible. I used it myself and got immediate results. highly recommend.

I had a chronic cough for over 3 years. Went through all kinds of tests and doctors and no relief. A friend sent me the clipping about Vicks Vapor Rub. My cough is GONE!!!! I still can't believe that I can now laugh and talk on the phone and not have this constant coughing. It really works.

This works, it really does... Was told by Joyce and Cheryl... It worked on her granddaughter and it works on me... Try it.

AND IN AN EMERGENCY... if you don't have VICKS V.R. at home, at night time... try a large onion cut in half and place it near the child's head (night stand) it will help until you can get something else. The room will smell onions but when you open the window... it will go away.

Does any one know why rubbing VICKS on your feet works?

My husband was prescribed Zestottic 10/12.5 mg for high blood pressure. He started a dry cough and can't stop. He went to the emergency room and they told him to stop taking the drug and it was Friday and they said maybe by Tuesday or sooner he would stop coughing, so far no luck. He did contact his regular doctor last week and she gave him some cough capsule. That do not help at all. She gave him the pressure medication and it seems to me that she should have known that something is not right. Please help?

People's Pharmacy response: Have your husband ask her if she could prescribe a different blood pressure medicine, not an ACE inhibitor. He should tell her he suspects the cough is a side effect of the Zestoretic.

I tried using the Vick's Vaporub on my feet at night because of a bad cough.
I thought the suggestion was crazy but to my surprise it worked. It sounds nuts but it worked for me.

My mother-in-law always used to swear by Vicks on the bottom of the feet for a cough. We thought it was ludicrous.

Well, Mom might have been right after all. I have an upper respiratory virus and haven't slept in two nights, because of coughing. All day today, I couldn't get out more that two or three words at a time, without coughing. My doctor said to just let it run its course, and try some Mucinex. But, that didn't work in the past. So, I thought, why not!

I rubbed the bottom of my feet and put on some clean white cotton athletic socks. Within minutes, literally, I could get out a full sentence. I still have an occasional cough this evening, but it is 95% better.

Hopefully this will give my sore ribs a rest for a few hours. I swear, the last time I coughed, before I tried the Vicks, I thought I twisted a kidney! I do agree with the reports I have read though. It should never be used in children under 2 years old.

Vick's Vapour rub is a great help in stopping the cough so one can sleep. We use it on the adults, as well as the children before going to bed. First applying Vick's to the soles of the feet then adding fresh socks to keep the sheets clean.

It absolutely works. I think if I'd known about it 15 years ago with my first two children we could have avoided two hospitalizations. My daughter (age 2) and I spent a night in the bathroom, just inhaling steam for relief. The next night, desperate for a good night's sleep for both of us, and worried that she would develop something more serious, I googled and googled away until I found out about this remedy. Her cough subsided within 10 minutes, we slept ten hours, and the next day she was on the mend--not so much from the product but probably due to the solid sleep and healing time.

My mother in Law, was coughing for years. Tried to go to numerous Specialists. Had heaps of medication for it and still was coughing in a way that she did not go out in months. After only one day of use, the cough is almost gone , and improvement of 99%. Please share this as much as you can. Someone will be grateful to you!!

Just be careful-- Vick's cannot cure the underlying cause! You should definitely see a doctor for a prolonged cough. Especially in children or older adults-- it could turn out to be a nasty bronchitis, or, even worse--asthma. And no amount of Vick's is going to cure that!
Ps-- it worked for me AFTER my antibiotics had run out and the cough still lingered;)

I have had a hacking cough for over a week and consequently no sleep at all and felt like death. Pains in my chest and sides from endless cough cough cough.

I had heard this remedy but brushed it off as another old wives tale. However last night at 1.30am I was so sick to death of coughing I thought in for a penny in for a pound. There was no harm trying.

I smeared the bottom of my feet stuck some socks on and lay down in wait. I kid you not I just woke up having slept straight through with not a single cough all night. Just the fact I had a solid uninterrupted sleep I feel like a new person this morning. Please try this it really does work.

I have a very bad cough at the moment, sometimes with the whooping sound. Haven't slept properly for over a week now until last night. A few people told me about putting Vicks on the soles of my feet when going to bed and I thought 'yeah right, that's really going to work'. But hey, it did. I did it for the first time last night and just about to do it again now. It's such a relief just knowing that I can get some sleep at last, I've been like a zombie all week. People should definitely listen and give some of these old wives tales a go, glad I did.

I have been coughing for five weeks! My body is sore from coughing and I have been completely exhausted by it. Yesterday at work someone told me this. I thought she couldn't possible be right; it was just too wacky to be real.

Last night though I gave up on the Nyquil that wasn't working so well and tried the Vick's on the bottoms of my feet. In fact, my husband rubbed it in well while laughing and saying that if it worked he'd get some sleep too!

UNBELIEVABLE!! After five weeks of coughing all night I only coughed once last night after using the Vick's. We both got some much-needed rest!

In spite of what money making skeptics might say, or hecklers heckle. This treatment does work, and by no means is it within the realm of someone's head or idea. I has taking nearly anything over the counter that I could safely take for a chronic cough which left me sleepless and extremely sore and tired. While slathering Vicks on the feet at night might sound like an impossible remedy. It works and leaves this gal more restored, so heckle on .... As this gal gets sweet sleep.

Earlier today I was as sick as a dog with the worst cold/flu I've had in years. No sleep for nights because of chest congestion and cough. And then my wife read about this crazy Vicks thing and made me do it. (I would never have tried it otherwise.)

And so now, late at night, I am completely cured. How in the hell does THIS work? I note that I am not a "suggestible" person and all, and I know that any power of suggestion had nothing to do with it. It's got to be some kind of weird chemical fix, but WHAT? A thousand thank-yous.
