I've tried to find the mixture ratio of Certo and Grape Juice, but all of the links just keep running me in circles! Help!!!

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: THERE ARE SEVERAL RECIPES. ONE COMMON ONE IS ONE TABLESPOON CERTO IN 6 OZ JUICE.

What is the mix of Certo to Welch's grape juice?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: MOST PEOPLE FIND ONE TABLESPOON CERTO TO 6 OR 8 OZ JUICE WORKS WELL.

Hi,

Just wondering about the Certo. Is that one liquid tablespoon you are using?

Thanks

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: YES

My high blood pressure prevents me from taking anti-inflammatories for arthritis. Degenerative discs present, and constant pain. Certo and grape juice made from purple grapes help tremendously. I no longer measure specifically, and may only take one glass a day. I can tell it if I skip two days, however. Have found cheaper liquid pectin on-line that seems to work fine.

I want to know what is in pectin that could cause a remission in arthritis inflammation?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: IT MIGHT NOT BE THE PECTIN; PERHAPS IT IS SOMETHING IN GRAPE JUICE, OR IT MIGHT BE THE LACTIC ACID, CITRIC ACID OR POTASSIUM CITRATE ALSO FOUND IN CERTO. NO SCIENTIFIC STUDIES TO TELL US.

I read about using Certo (Pectin) in our local newspaper. I bought some for my husband to try, because his rheumatoid arthritis in his right knee was so bad he complained about the pain constantly. He mixes 1/4 cup of Certo in a gallon of kool-aid and drinks one or two glasses a night.

After two or three days of drinking Certo he told me he was pain free. He is forever grateful to me for finding such a solution to his arthritis pain. We have passed this information on to many friends and they all come back to thank me for telling them of such a great pain reliever for arthritis. Thank the "People's Pharmacy" for all the great information people are passing on to other people. We love it !!!

How often do we need to take one tablespoon of Certo with 6oz of grape juice every day?

How long will it take before we see the result?

Could you take grapeseed supplement to get similar benefit? I really do not want the extra calories or sugar that goes along with grape juice. I purchased a box of fruit pectin that contained two packets of liquid pectin in small amount for $3.50. Kinda pricey if you use 1 tbs. every day.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE DON'T KNOW IF GRAPE SEED EXTRACT WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT.

How long before feeling any difference (relief) in joints?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: GIVE IT 6 WEEKS. IF YOU DON'T GET RESULTS BY THEN, YOU CAN PROBABLY CROSS IT OFF THE LIST.

Does anyone know if it has to be grape juice? What about cranberry juice? Is it the juice, the Certo, or the combination?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE HEARD FROM ONE READER WHO GOT BENEFIT FROM CERTO IN POMEGRANATE JUICE. IF YOU TRY CRANBERRY JUICE, PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW IT WORKS.

I want to try the certo and grape juice, but I am wondering that since many people are concerned about the chemicals in apple peels and other fruit skins, and the pectin in certo comes from these (I think) if I use certo would I in effect be taking a mega dose of these harmful chemicals?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: THERE'S NO INDICATION THAT CERTO HAS ANY PESTICIDE RESIDUE.

Where do you go to get certo?

I have fibromyalgia muscle pain and wonder if anyone has had success using Certo with 6oz of grape juice fibromyalsia since they say it is like arthritis.

If it works for your help, what kind of price would you pay? I would pay for it rather then have knee surgery that is for sure!

I have been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and responded very well to one month of prednisone 20, then 2 weeks of 15mg, 2 weeks of 10mg, with SED rate coming down gradually. Never terribly high. After about 4-5 days on 5mg, the discomfort in my hands came back, but (luckily not the neck, jaw, and shoulder pain). Have had no significant response to increasing back to 10mg daily.

I am going to try the Certo/grape (or pomegranate) juice. The prospect of long-term steroids is something I just don't want to deal with.

Has anyone heard anything about Certo and PMR? I have not seen anything in my resources.

Thanks,
MJ

In California I tried Albertson's (no luck there). I found Certo for $4.99 at Ralph's (part of Kroger chain).

I'm new to the People's Pharmacy site and have several questions. (1) With the Certo/Grape Juice for arthritis. I've been able to find the liquid form of Certo, but have found the powdered form of Certo (both brand name and off brand). Would it matter if I used the off brand? And what would the recipe be for the powder? And could the Certo be mixed with other juices like grapefruit or apple??

(2) With the golden raisins and gin for arthritis, do you keep the raisins in the refrigerator and how long are they good for? I do believe the recipe was to soak the raisins in the gin until the gin has evaporated and then to have 9 a day - do you have to have the 9 raisins all at once or can you break it up throughout the day, not to exceed the 9 raising?

(3) I am 3 1/2 years post gastric bypass surgery and I lost 105 lbs, but now I have regained almost 50 lbs. I have had several tests and nothing has turned up to be a problem. My doctor wants me to see a Nutritionist - again, but I already know the foods I should and should not eat and the portion size. I am just hungry and just can't seem to stop the eating (grazing). Someone told me that they thought they read in your column some time ago about using lemon juice or apple cider vinegar mixed with "I don't know what" to curb the appetite. Is this true? Is there something else that might curb the appetite? Is there any safe OTC diet pills that might help (my insurance will not cover Rx for weight loss). Thank you for any answers you are able to give me!!!

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: IT IS DISCOURAGING THAT AN INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD PAY FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY BUT NOT FOR MEDICATION. THE POTION THAT ONE READER SENT IN IS LISA'S WEIGHT LOSS ELIXIR. IT CONTAINS CINNAMON AND GREEN TEA AS WELL AS VINEGAR. IT WORKED FOR LISA BUT WE ARE NOT SURE IT WOULD WORK FOR ANYONE ELSE.

AS FOR THE REMEDIES: MANY PEOPLE KEEP THE RAISINS IN THE FRIDGE. THEY SHOULD BE IN A COVERED JAR. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER YOU EAT ALL 9 RAISINS AT ONCE OR THROUGHOUT THE DAY, SO FAR AS WE KNOW.

AS FOR THE CERTO, WE HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS EXPERIMENTED WITH THE POWDER AND WILL LET US KNOW THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.

Does this HAVE to be the purple grapes? I seem to have an allergic reaction to the dark ones. Would the red or white have the same benefits?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: RED GRAPE JUICE SHOULD WORK AS WELL.

Can you use both the certo/grape juice remedy as well as the gin-soaked raisins remedy? All the Dr's offer me is "pain drugs" & I don't want to live my life on pain pills!

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE DON'T KNOW OF ANY REASON NOT TO TRY BOTH.

Certo may be purchased anywhere they sell supplies for home canning. I found it at my local supermarket.

I have just started this and have been mixing it by the glass each time. Would it be okay to mix it in larger quantities and store in fridge or will it start to thicken?

I use 1 tablespoon of certo to about 6 to 8 ounces of juice. Certo is quite tart but I do believe it helped me. If you have any questions, I would be happy to help however I can. Pain is awful and I am so sorry for what you are going thru. hope it helps you, it really did me.

I also did the raisins in gin and I think was also a contributor to helping. I just bought the white raisins and put them in a jar and then poured enough gin to be about even to the top then waited about a week till they absorbed the gin. I only kept a napkin over the top while it was evaporating so it was never tightly closed. Then just eat 9 a day, I don't think a few more or less really matters.

For me I also am going through menopause and the universe must be balancing itself because I had the most easiest periods, so menopause has just been b a d. lol. Funny, but true. The last and most important thing to try to treat is the depression and uselessness and futility that comes with being in so much pain.

I truly wish you well, I hope these things that worked for me will also help you. and again, correspond if you like, or anyone reading this.. best of all to you!!

Are you suppose to use PURPLE Grape Juice for the Certo and Grape Juice recipe? Also doing the gin and raisins but keeping in a plastic covered container in Refrigerator-is the gin suppose to be completely evaporated? Should this be kept in a glass jar instead of plastic? My raisins are plump and moist? What gin brand has the most Juniper berries in it? The gin bottles I looked at didn't have the ingredients listed. I'm new to this so thanks for all your help!

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: PURPLE OR RED GRAPE JUICE IS USUALLY SUGGESTED.

THE GIN SHOULD COMPLETELY EVAPORATE--NO PUDDLES, BUT THE RAISINS WILL INDEED BE PLUMP AND MOIST. GLASS WOULD PROBABLY BE PREFERABLE TO PLASTIC, SINCE THERE IS A BIT OF ALCOHOL LEFT IN THE RAISINS.

WE DON'T KNOW WHICH GIN IS BEST, BUT HAVE BEEN ADVISED THE CHEAPEST GINS MAY USE ARTIFICIAL FLAVORINGS.

Couldn't find Certo so bought pectin as Sure-Jell. It contained one big packet and I poured this in 64 oz. bottle of grape juice and shook it up. This did not work! The pectin solidified in lumps. I guess I should mix it one glass at a time but at what ratio of powder to juice? Am most anxious to try this so hope for an early reply.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE ARE NOT QUITE SURE. COULD YOU TRY ONE TEASPOON PER FOUR OUNCES AND SEE HOW THAT GOES? YOU MIGHT NEED THREE OR FOUR DOSES A DAY.

For my diagnosed osteoarthritis I have used several therapies: raisins soaked in gin with added juniper berries which I remove and evaporate for about 1 day, nettle root powder, boswella serrata, scullcap, safflower petals, fish oil, and turmeric with black pepper and experienced total loss of pain and flu-like feeling of unwellness and almost total loss of stiffness which is very gratifying. I might see if high pectin fruit would replace processed pectin.

I have some questions. Is there any particular reason for grape juice to be used? Can any other juice be substituted? Could you use tart cherry juice or blueberry juice or another kind of juice? Doesn't fruit pectin have other health benefits as well?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: WE UNDERSTAND THAT OTHER JUICE WITH ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY ALSO WORKS. FRUIT PECTIN CAN HELP LOWER CHOLESTEROL, ALTHOUGH WE DON'T KNOW IF THE DOSE BEING USED FOR JOINTS IS CAPABLE OF DOING THAT.

Chemo Tx causes achy joints, so does Depokote. Has anyone ever tried certo and grape juice for these side effects?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: NO ONE HAS REPORTED THEIR RESULTS TO US IF THEY HAVE TRIED IT. WE INVITE THEM (AND YOU) TO DO SO.

When using certo & juice how often do you use it , once a day or twice a day? Thanks for immediate response "R"

MAM~
Where on-line did you purchase the certo?

I have used both the liquid and powdered pectin and they both work well for me. I see no difference. The grape juice and pectin actually works better than I expected! I have a knee that bothered me a great deal but seemed to be more of a cartilage problem which I did not expect to be helped with the mixture. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did my arthritic pains go away so did the pain in the knee. I don't use quite a full tablespoon per day - more like a half tablespoon.

I got some at my local Super Wal-Mart, in the grocery section.

I have learned that a tablespoon of mustard taken by mouth will cure the pain of cramps. I don't know how, but it works for me.

I have been taking Certo and Welches Light Grape Juice for a long time now and it works great for me. I had arthritis in my hands and my fingers wouldn't bend for me. I started to take it and I have no problems at all. I am only taking a 1/2 tlbs of pectin in 3 ozs grape juice which would be comparable to your recipe. I started with a larger dose and the cut down to the smaller dose as I read in your recipe a while ago. Thank you very much. You have to stick with it in order for it to work.

I have osteoarthritis in my thumb. Does the Certo and grape juice remedy work for osteoarthritis as well as rheumatoid?

My thanks! The People's Pharmacy provides a great service.

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: SOME PEOPLE REPORT SUCCESS FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS. THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT IS TO TRY IT. LOW RISK.

I have osteoarthritis and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD). I have pain in many joints and chronic fatigue, as well as bursitis in my hip. I have taken numerous medications, had physical therapy, acupuncture and injections in the spine, over the 29 years since my diagnosis. All have helped, however, I started taking the Certo and cherry juice three months ago, and have much reduced pain and more energy than I have had for several years. I really hadn't expected much change, but cannot account for any other reason, other than this remedy, that I am feeling so much better.

This stuff works. I tried it for my Achilles tendon and it works. I got the recipe from Livestrong 2 tablespoons of Certo and 1/2 cup of grape juice. Yum. I use the Sure Jell instead of Certo and drink it 3 times per day for one month. You can drink one cup per week after that.

Can a person use sugar free grape juice with the certo?

PEOPLE'S PHARMACY RESPONSE: YES

At first I took 1 teaspoon of Certo in water with six drops of Stevia sweetener. I did that three times a day. After two days I had no more inflammation in my knee. Now, I take 1 teaspoon of Certo in plain water with six drops of Stevia sweetener. I do that twice a day for maintenance. I may quit taking it just to see what happens.

How long does it take for the juice and certo to work? My husband and I have been drinking it for 7 days & do not feel any difference in pain level.

Do these remedies work on rheumatoid arthritis as well?

I was having a lot of pain in my lower back and also knees and hips. I started taking 1TBSP certo in 6 oz of orange juice and after only 2 days I can tell a difference.

I mixed 64oz of grape juice (100%) and one envelope of certo. I drank 4oz. twice a day. After about 10 days I realized my hip didn't hurt as much. I have had pain in my hip for 2yrs. My hip is not 100%, but a marked improvement. I will keep drinking it. I tried the gin soaked raisins for 2 months, I felt no relief, so I stopped. I would recommend grape juice/certo mix.

WOW! I don't have arthritis, but I did have a very bad back. I was in agony. I have only had two doses and my back pain seems to have gone. I am truly amazed!

Has anyone tried the Certo and grape juice for sciatic pain?

I am 55 years old and I can remember as a child that my grandmother used to drink certo. It came in a brown bottle then. She would just sip it out of the bottle and did not mix it with anything. I asked her what it was for and she told me that it helped with her arthritis. This was more than 40 years ago. Some of her family raised hogs and it was given to the big stud hog because they said that he was old. Maybe he had arthritis to! I have always been curious as to how she figured that out so many years ago.

I wrote in before stating the pectin and light grape juice worked for my arthritis. I want to add that I used to get urinary tract infections about every 6 months and since taking this mixture I haven't had 1 infection and that has to be about 2-3 yrs now. Great stuff.

I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee in 2006, by 2009 I was diagnosed arthritis in my right knee. November 2011, orthopedic doctor said I have no cartilage left in my right knee and only a very small amount left in my left knee. I'm in constant pain (a little bit to a lot) and stiffness. I have pain and/or stiffness whether I'm laying down, standing, walking or sitting. My doctor put me on Mobic (similar to Celebrex). I took it for about 4 months, I couldn't tell it helped at all, plus with all the big side effects I quit taking it.

I really don't want to do the knee surgery route. I may try shots in my knees (my youngest son is getting married this October, so I may get shots just before then so I won't be limping around at his wedding).

I tried taking Grapeseed Extract capsules (3 times a day), went through 3 bottles I purchased at a health food store. Except for a couple of days in April, I continued to have pain and/or stiffness. I finished my last bottle a couple of days ago, so I've discontinued using it.

I just purchased some organic grape juice (no added sugar as I'm diabetic). Now I need to find the Certo and I'll try it, if I don't notice anything better, then I'll try the raisins soaked in gin.

Some of my knee problem is my weight. I was always a small person (5'2" tall) and never weighed over 100 lbs. until I was 21 years old. After my first two babies I was able to maintain a good weight of 110 to 114 lbs. My 3rd baby in 1984, I only got down to about 128 lbs. Then my weight started going up in 1989. By 1992, I was going through menopause and got up to 168 lbs. In 1995 using Phen-Fen I was able to get down to 145 lbs. Then it was taken off the market, I gained up to 212 by 2005. I changed my eating habits more cutting out fat-free and low-fat foods, limiting soda pop (even though I was never a big drinker) and cut portions of my food, over a 2 year period (2006-2208) I lost 40 lbs. I stayed about 170-175 lbs. until gaining weight between 2010 - 2012 to 205 lbs.. I had heel surgery in 2012 and gained another 5 lbs.

My primary care physician said if I would lose even 10 or 20 lbs. I'd probably notice some relief, so I've been trying to lose some weight with cutting food portions, drinking more water and using www.livestrong.com to help keep track of my calories, sugars, fat, protein and carbs.

I sure wish there was a cure for arthritis, especially in the knees. Shots or surgery can be expensive. My orthopedic doctor said the shots last anywhere from 3 to 9 months and shots can only be given once or twice a year for maybe 3 or 4 years, then what?

I have been looking into cayenne pepper as a treatment for the pain of shingles – could this cream be used for that purpose. It’s not for me so I’m wary of making anything worse.. Its actually quite frustrating because most people my age have no idea that this is a disease that can happen at any age and honestly, most people my age have no idea what it is!

I remember falling two times (once in December and then possibly a second time a few months after that) because of ice. The first time, yes I had pain on my hand even though I had a thick glove on. The pain seemed to have gone away until recently. I would get up from sleep with not only a burning pain, but stiffness in my thumb area. I read about the grape juice and halved the serving size (4 ounces). No Certo. Well, I still had pain. I still had to wear a thumb brace at night so I would wake up and be able to use my thumb without pain for at least five hours. Finally, I found Certo in the store, and now drink 6 ounces of Welch's Concord Grape Juice (the lite formula) to a tablespoon of Certo. I DO FEEL A DIFFERENCE! A slight pain ever so often, but it's dull, not burning. And the stiffness has definitely gone away. I just add this "cocktail" to my morning vitamin intake and I'm good to go! Thanks again for another cure all.
