Q. I have high blood pressure and would like a natural way to lower it. I have tried the herb hawthorn but it doesn't seem to do much. I would really appreciate any information you can send me.

A. Hawthorn is an herbal medicine prescribed in Europe for mild cases of congestive heart failure. We have seen no good evidence that it can lower blood pressure.

There are actually a surprising number of natural approaches to blood pressure control. If you are overweight, losing several pounds can make a big difference.

The DASH diet rich in vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products has also been shown to lower blood pressure. Other options include beet juice, Concord grape juice or pomegranate juice. Even dark chocolate may help.

We are sending you our new Guide to Blood Pressure Treatment with information about non-drug approaches along with the best prescription medications.

High blood pressure runs in my family and even though I exercise a minimum of five days a week, I started to get higher blood pressure. The doctor put me on a low dose of blood pressure medicine, but I do not like being on any kind of medication and it made me dizzy. I did some research and read about Mutka Vati, an herbal remedy.

I tried it - 2 tablets in the morning and 2 in the evening. Within one month my blood pressure was back to normal. A couple of months later the doctor took me off the blood pressure medicine. I now take 2 tablets in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening and my blood pressure averages around 110/65. I have recommended this to a couple of friends, and all have reported the same results. I have now been on this for two years and have not experienced any side effects, except I feel calmer and my blood pressure is in control. I still watch my weight and exercise.

I am 65 and developed high BP a year back (170/100). I approached an Ayurvedic (ancient Indian medicine) doctor and he prescribed the two herbal medicines
1.ARJIN(ALARSIN)
2.ANGXEENORM
each one tab in the morning and evening, and the BP has come down within the two months to the level of 130/80.

Now I am on one each tab a day and maintaining at that level without any other complications.

With regards to LDarling's post: THANK YOU! I have been on BP medication for about 10 years (am now 54). It runs in my family too (five siblings, all different weights have it.) Although I have struggled with my weight most of my life I have exercised faithfully most of that time; recently introducing yoga into my routine (for balance, limbering, and calming.)

Since diagnosed with high BP, I have taken different medications, most recently a combination diuretic/beta blocker in the AM. About a year ago
began taking bioidentical hormones for peri-menopause too. Recently, my BP readings were going up and the doctor increased my dose to one pill AM and PM. did not notice a big difference in my home BP readings even with the increased dose.

Then I saw your post about Mutka Vati and I went to the website(herbs2helpyou) to read more about it. I ordered it and started it around 3 weeks ago. Initially I had a bad headache which I thought may be from the Mutka Vati so I decreased the dose to 1/2 pill am and pm, taking my regular BP medicine as well. The headache ended up being caused from a yoga position. I then increased the Mutka Vati to one pill twice a day, then two in the morning and one in the evening. Each day I noticed my readings going lower and lower. I then stopped the evening BP RX dose because I noticed dizziness with the lower readings. So far the readings are usually in the 120/70-130/80 range. I have not had a reading in the 120/70 range for years!I have not completely stopped my one dose of prescription RX yet as you cannot stop a beta blocker quickly.

Thank you again for posting about the Mutka Vati!
