Q. I have a condition (Wegener's Granulomatosis) that had made me miserable for years and stumped several doctors. The symptom that troubled me was like hot flashes, but instead of flashing they were almost constant. I finally searched hot flashes in www.peoplespharmacy.com anyway. Now they are gone and I'm telling everyone I know! Taking 50 mg of Pycnogenol twice a day has done the trick. Thank you so much for writing about this on your Web site. I haven't had a flash since the first day I started it. My disease is not curable, but the flashes bothered me more, and now they are gone.
A. We are so pleased to learn that Pycnogenol (maritime pine bark extract) worked for your symptoms. The study we cited (Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Aug. 2007) showed that it helps reduce hot flashes for menopausal women. We did not know that it might work for hot flashes from other causes.

This article about Pycnogenol is interesting in that it refers to curbing hot flashes in menopausal women. But what about MEN? I was not diagnosed with andropause, but I've got hot flashes that are very annoying and would like to get them under control. Any suggestions about using this substance or anything else?
I have excessive sweating of the scalp and face called hyperhydrosis. From May till October, I am homebound. The water drips onto my clothing and I cannot wear any makeup. Might Pycnogenol also be the solution for me?
(Hot Flashes) I'm 48yrs old. I only had one hot flash just one. I decided to take DHEA. Take 5mgs a day. Or 25 to 50mgs a day. Chek with your Dr. first. Its also good for sore bones. Trust me it works for me and I have spondy. It saves me alot From Dr. bills
Is there a possibility of over medicating for hot flashes? I.e., taking Pycnogenal in addition to OTC menopause remedies such as Natrol's "Complete Balance", another daily dose of Vitamin E or Black Cohosh?
