Everyone needs health care at some point, and in today’s complex health-care system, patients are at risk for errors. Some people with chronic illnesses who have logged a lot of time in hospitals have thought hard about how patients can help providers give them the best possible care. We talk with two expert patients and get their recommendations for communicating with health care providers and coping with a complicated health care system. I lived with my mother for the last year of her life watching her battle lung cancer then go to surgery for a bad knee and having a massive stroke due to the surgery. I spent hundreds of hours with the doctors and through treatment and being her advocate in the whole gruesome process. I kept copious notes and grilled doctors and nurses while in the hospitals. I could relate completely with these women and feel I too have a Ph.D in patientology. I practice "natural" preventive medicine for myself - have no insurance but rely on visualization, meditation and good diet and exercise to prevent Ill-ness. Great show, thanks!
