Q. I recently read your answer to the person with smelly feet. I’d like to tell you what worked for me for 30 years. I was a waitress and had to wear solid shoes and nylons for long hours. My feet ached and smelled so bad I couldn’t stand them. I tried everything. Finally, Campho-Phenique worked wonders. It may help someone else.
A. Campho-Phenique contains camphor and phenol as main ingredients along with eucalyptus oil. It is primarily used for relieving minor skin irritations, cuts, scrapes and insect bites. Perhaps the antibacterial and antifungal nature of these old-fashioned ingredients helped clear up a lingering infection responsible for foot odor.

My youngest son never wore socks with his running shoes and his feet smelled so sickening that it would knock an elephant out. We did see the doc who said it was a bacterial infection that really liked the no socks and inside of the gym shoes. We had a prescription for an antibiotic which we rubbed on his feet after washing for a week and then made him wear socks. Any of the old fashioned remedies that kill bacteria could be tried. He had no marks on his skin.
I read your article in todays paper (4/4/08) about a fellow with smelly feet. I found out a long time ago that the dye used in dark colored socks can make your feet smell. Changing to white or light colored socks worked for me.
