Q. I suffer from chronic leg pain. My doctors have tested me and all they can say is that it might be due to nerve damage. They suggest support hose.
I bought some medical support hose but they are very expensive. I thought I could save money with regular support pantyhose.
It feels strange to wear them but they really help my legs feel much better. Is it a problem to wear women’s pantyhose? My wife bought them for me but she worries someone might think I am gay for wearing them. Is there anything else I could use or is she worried over nothing?
A. Pantyhose don’t provide as much support as medical support hose. On the other hand, if they relieve your leg pain, we see no reason to spend money on more expensive stockings. As long as you are not parading around in shorts, you shouldn’t attract undue attention.
If you are trying to start a family, pantyhose might be troublesome. They could raise testicular temperature and reduce sperm count. If that’s not an issue, your wife can relax.

This reminds me of the guy who went into the locker room to change into his golf clothes. He noticed his buddy was wearing a pair of pantyhose. He asked, "Joe, how long have you been wearing women's pantyhose?" Joe replied, "Ever since my wife found them in my car!"
So I guess women'a pantyhose could be dangerous for your health, especially if your wife finds them in the back seat of your car!
Thanks for the great info over the years.
After knee surgery Mu entire leg swelled. I was told to wear compression stockings. Yes they are very expensive for Unisex or male versions. I only need for one leg so I usually wear thigh high, and I have switched only to women’s since it cost ½ the price. My wife and I also found that 15-20 compression pantyhose on long trips do not let the legs get stiff. I use to wear the 20-30 compression but find the 15-20 to be just fine. If you order a woman’s size, get the next size larger. The thigh highs are nice in that going to the restroom it's not so cumbersome. But the pantyhose on airplanes are fine and works great on those 4 hour trips.
If you get the stay up thigh high stockings, shave the top 4" of your leg so it does not slide down.
There is no reason to buy really expensive pantyhose if you can find a good pair of womens labeled pantyhose that give the right support your looking for, I'm a male 6ft and over 200 lbs I have found sears brand nice touch in 2 styles that fit and feel great firm leg toning support and medium leg toning support both are well fitting well wearing pantyhose and I wear size F.
I too suffer from leg pain from time to time. My wife also had purchased some compression pantyhose a few years back for her tired legs, and they were almost 100 dollars. When I told her of my recent leg pain she suggested the same. I did purchase some compression thigh high stockings, but they kept falling down. I decided to buy a good pair of women's pantyhose. I got a size smaller than the package said so they would be a little tight. They fit great and my legs felt great. The only problem was, my boxer shorts. I since quit wearing underwear when wearing the pantyhose and not only did my legs feel better, but it's much more comfortable!
